Partnership announcement

CAMEROON, April 2024 — Impact Axis Foundation, a workforce development organisation working to bridge the gap between education and meaningful work, has announced a partnership with the Global Mentorship Initiative (GMI) to expand access to professional mentorship and career development opportunities for young people in Cameroon.

The partnership will enable young people within the Impact Axis network to participate in GMI's structured 10-week mentorship programme, which connects students and early-career professionals with experienced volunteer mentors from diverse industries and professional backgrounds.

Through individual mentoring sessions, participants will receive practical guidance on developing competitive CVs, navigating job searches, building professional networks, and preparing for the expectations of the workplace. The programme also incorporates the use of digital tools, including LinkedIn and artificial intelligence, to support career exploration and professional development.

Expanding Access to Professional Guidance

For many young Cameroonians, the transition from education into employment remains challenging, particularly where access to professional networks, career guidance, and practical work experience is limited.

The partnership seeks to address some of these barriers by connecting young people directly with professionals who can share industry knowledge, provide personalised feedback, and help participants make more informed decisions about their careers.

GMI's mentorship model combines structured learning with one-on-one engagement, allowing participants to develop practical job-search skills while benefiting from the professional experiences of their mentors.

The initiative complements Impact Axis's existing work in experiential learning, durable skills development, and access to opportunity.

Through its flagship Goodwill Fellowship and Skills & Employability programmes, Impact Axis supports young people in developing communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and other competencies relevant to personal and professional growth.

By integrating GMI's mentorship opportunities into its wider youth development ecosystem, Impact Axis aims to strengthen the connections between skills development, professional guidance, and access to meaningful work.

Strengthening Partnerships for Youth Employment

The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to improving young people's preparation for employment and expanding the support available during the transition from education into the workforce.

For Impact Axis, the partnership forms part of a broader strategy to work with organisations, employers, mentors, and institutions that can help create stronger pathways into meaningful and dignified opportunities for young Cameroonians.

Through this collaboration, both organisations will contribute their complementary strengths, combining Impact Axis's engagement with young people in Cameroon and GMI's established mentorship model and network of volunteer professionals.
